Objectives

As a recruiter, I was given the challenging task to fill the position of Director of Manufacturing for an automotive OEM. With a one-month timeline, I knew I had to move fast.

To begin, I conducted extensive research on the automotive manufacturing industry and the OEM itself. I spoke with members of the hiring team to get a better understanding of the job requirements, company culture, and expectations for the position. Armed with this information, I developed a targeted recruitment strategy.

Solution

I started by reaching out to my extensive network of industry contacts, asking for referrals and recommendations. I also posted the job listing on various job boards and shared it on social media. In addition, I utilised advanced search tools and online databases to source potential candidates.
As I began to review CVs and applications, I quickly realised that the competition for top talent was fierce. I knew I had to set myself apart by being creative and going above and beyond. So, I decided to attend a local industry event where I could connect with potential candidates face-to-face.

At the event, I made valuable connections with several experienced manufacturing professionals, including one who had previously worked for a leading automotive OEM. After a brief discussion, I convinced him to apply for the position.

After conducting initial screenings and interviews, I presented a shortlist of top candidates to the hiring team. Together, we interviewed the candidates and selected one individual who demonstrated the perfect combination of experience, skills, and cultural fit.
Throughout the process, I maintained open communication with the hiring team and provided regular updates on my progress. I also offered valuable insights and advice on how to navigate the competitive talent landscape and identify the best candidates.

In the end, the chosen candidate had a strong background in automotive manufacturing, specifically in the areas of process improvement and lean manufacturing. He had a proven track record of leading high-performing teams and implementing innovative strategies to drive productivity and efficiency.

Overall

Overall, this search was a challenging but rewarding experience.
By being proactive, creative, and dedicated to finding the best talent, I was able to successfully fill the position in just one month. The key takeaway from this experience was that when it comes to recruitment, perseverance, and a willingness to think outside the box can make all the difference.

1 year old and the Director is thriving, and his department and company are hitting all targets.
