A few weeks ago, I had a response from an SME after they’d read one of my mailers about improving recruitment.
The question was simple:
“Mark, how do we get the applications we actually want?”
Good company. Good people. But they were struggling to attract the right candidates and, more importantly, keep them.
They’d hire someone promising, things would look positive for a few months, then the person would leave.
In the end, I picked up the role and found them someone strong who is still there a few months later, so clearly something has gone right.
But we had a proper conversation around retention too.
Because getting applications is one thing. Keeping good people is another.
So how do you get the applications you actually want?
Truthfully, it’s not a secret. Most companies already know the answers deep down. The problem is usually consistency, expectations, process, or how the role is being presented to the market.
Here are a few thoughts from me on “How do you get the applications you want?”
